When I told Elisabet Sahtouris that we were having a retreat program called Butterfly Connection in her native Greece in 2009, she wrote back saying “it is interesting that your message downloaded right after I wrote two emails on butterfly metamorphosis.” Good timing!

A sustainable society relies directly on our ability to re-generate social participation and spaces to create and sustain trust within our communities. Even if natural systems are good metaphors for designed social systems, they might be misleading.

Another way of getting connected is to read the individual contributions of like minded people aggregated in one place. Many people have been selecting their own content by subscribing to feeds on Google Reader, for example, or using platforms to automatically or manually share articles, tweets and the like.

One of the books I enjoyed reading as a kid was Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. I currently work in a school called Summerhill, a place where the children have the freedom to be themselves. Before coming here I worked as a learning host and process designer for organisations all around Europe, South America and Asia. Apart from the UK, I also lived in Spain, Denmark, Sweden and my native Brazil.
